The paper is devoted to psychological factors of functional somatic disorders. Main stages of the development of psychosomatic regulation and the each stage mechanisms of regulation disturbances are considered. Based on a chronic insomnia model the hypothesis on the role of socio-cultural factors in development and chronization of somatic diseases is tested. Country-specific differences in prevalence and manifestations of insomnia are shown. Several empirical studies (a total of 105 healthy controls and 83 chronic insomnia patients) confirmed the role of family factors and socio-cultural beliefs about sleep and insomnia in the development of subjective complaints and objective sleep disturbances. Disfunctional beliefs about sleep and insomnia typical for Russian population are identified.

Keywords: psychology of corporeality, body regulation, sleep, insomnia, socio-psychological factors, socio-cultural forms of pathology, disfunctional beliefs about sleep and insomnia
