The problem of variability / stability of identity is analyzed in the context of modern social and psychological approaches to the study of identity. It is noted that the dynamics of identity is understood as a consequence of rapid social change in the postmodern age and is expressed in the growing multiplicity and potentially different I-structures. Stresses the specificity of the national "identity crisis" as associated with virtually no way of personal and social future.

Keywords: personal and social identity, variability / stability of identity, narrative identity, multiplicity of self, possible self, social change, social constructionism
